Clothing Demand From Emerging Markets – An Opportunity For LDC Suppliers

With decreasing demand in the traditional markets in the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada for apparels, the new-book “Clothing Demand From Emerging Markets – An Opportunity For LDC Suppliers” launched by International Trade Centre comes at an opportune time. It gives in-depth markets insight for suppliers, apparel manufacturers in the countries like India, China, Malaysia, Brazil and South Africa to do business among themselves; and at the same time least developed countries to have trade ties with these countries.

Developing countries’ imports of clothing have grown faster (at 6.5% per year) over the last decade than those of developed countries (4.7 %). However, to have substantially increase export and import of apparels among the developing countries - India, China, Malaysia, Brazil and South Africa – two aspects need to be addressed: Knowledge and Market access. With these, here the book comes handy, with complete procedures, practices, agreements, tax structure required to do business in these countries.

The book, as a guidebook, work for clothing manufacturers of developing countries which usually suffers from insufficient knowledge (of market opportunities in other developing countries) and the capacity to develop market strategies. Secondly, the book comes with picture-clear preview of the supply-side constraints and other allied cautionary measures required to have foothold in the markets of the developing countries.

The comprehensive study written from a market perspective is laden with statistical figures, and has been meticulously designed to provide a macro and micro perspective and it contain specific recommendations for suppliers of developing countries on possible niche product groups that they could target in each other markets.

However, readers will find each chapter besides being devoted to a particular country, is supported with important and useful contacts and addresses of that country. So, if you are a new Indian apparel exporter and planning to export your products to China or Malaysia, Brazil or South Africa, a quick peek into the book would suffice you with required knowledge and information.

To begin with the first time exporter/ importer, the book is of well importance to students, economists, journalist, and whoever in interested in the apparel sector or countries.
